Aikido is renowned as a non-aggressive and yet effective martial art, which is reflected by a non-competitive and friendly training atmosphere. As well as improving balance, posture and co-ordination, Aikido also develops inner qualities such as awareness and calmness; useful self-defence for getting through exams!
As a society we practise and promote Aikido, and we organise various socials throughout the year. The society is run by6 students, but everyone is welcome to join the Aikido classes and come along to the socials.
During term-time we run an Aikido class at the Sugden Sports Centre on Wednesday, 6.15-8.15pm, which is open to everyone and especially suited to beginners. Just come along to any of the Aikido classes and see what we do, or event better, have a go straightaway – just wear a loose fitting t-shirt and tracksuit trousers.
