I hope you had a relaxing Christmas and that all your exams went well.  Now that the new semester is under way we will be starting to run trips to Pocklington again, starting with this Sunday (7th Feb).

As usual we will be leaving from outside the SU on Oxford Road at 7am, returning at about 8pm.  If you would like to come along then please put your name and contact number in the comments below.  As ever we are limited in how many people can fly on any one day so be sure to get your name down early.  The final list of people with a place will be posted here on Friday evening.

For those who have not flown before, you will need to bring membership money (£25 for the year) and about £25-30 for flying fees and food.  For more information on what else to bring please see the checklist on this website.

Just to confirm the following people have a place in the bus for tomorrow:

Natalie Bell, Balaji Krishnamurthy, Sohaib Siddiqui, Pukhraj Sodhi, Arjun Chandra, Ashley Scillitoe, Salman Aljamaz.  If you are not on this list then unfortunately you will not be able to fly this week.  We hope to be posting details of another trip soon.  If you have access to a car please get in contact so we can arrange more regular trips.

We will leave from outside the students union at 7am, returning around 8pm.  Remember to bring money for membership (£25) and your flying during the day (budget for approx £25-30). You will also need to bring some lunch or money to buy it from the tea bus on site which serves hot and cold sandwiches.

Remember to also bring plenty of warm clothing – hat/scarf/gloves are a must plus lots of layers.  It will be very exposed on the airfield so a few degrees colder than the city.  You will also need suitable footwear for the airfield, old trainers are the norm.

Apologies for the lack of flying days recently, we have had some difficulties getting access to the bus.

We do however have a trip planned for this Saturday (5th December).  If you would like to come put your names and contact numbers in the comments below.

If you have a car and would be willing to drive to the airfield then please get in contact so that we can arrange more trips.  Your petrol costs will be reimbursed.

See the “new members checklist” for some idea of what to bring, and remember that it can get very cold on the airfield at this time of year so bring hats/gloves and plenty of layers.

Just a final note on the details for tomorrow.

You can arrive any time between 9am and 4pm to fly but try to be earlier in the day if you can.

I will be driving the bus over leaving Manchester at 6.45am. If you want a lift at that time then send me a text or call on 07890287719. For the rest of the day I will be driving back and forth between the airfield and York rail station and I will try to be outside for each of the Manchester trains. It would help if you could let me know your approximate arrival time either in the comments thread here or by text so I can judge the numbers to wait for. I will try to be as obvious as possible but may not be able to wait right outside so look out for a blue minibus. I will also put a sign in the window.

When you get to the airfield there will be signs up directing you to the office. The best place to park is behind the clubhouse and this should be obvious from where there are other cars. Let the office staff know you are here from the University and they will direct you to the launch point.

We will be running an open day at the airfield with the aim of getting as many people flown as possible.  If you come along and join up on the Open Day your first trial flight will be included in the membership cost.

Because of the number of people we hope to fly, travel arrangements are more complicated than usual.  Firstly if you can get to the airfield under your own steam then driving directions are on the website and please feel free to arrive at any time between 9am and 4pm and we will get you a flight.  If you do not have a car then we intend to be running a shuttle bus from York Rail Station throughout the day.  Travel to York from Manchester Victoria Station takes about 2 hours and if you have a student railcard you can get advance tickets from www.tpexpress.co.uk for less than £5.

If you would like to come (especially if you will be arriving by train) please leave a comment below this post.  Once we have a good idea of the numbers involved we will fill up an approximate timetable for the bus to avoid people having long waits at the station or the airfield.

Normal 1 and 2 day trips will start from next week.
