Go

The most challenging board game in the world

Goban

Go is an ancient Chinese board game. This game of strategy is played by two players by taking turns in placing black and white stones on the intersections of a 19 by 19 grid of lines. The aim is to control parts of the board by surrounding it with your stones. A stone or group of stones may be captured by surrounding it with stones of the opposing colour.

The current incarnation of the Manchester University Go soc was initialised in January 2008 to promote and provide opportunities for playing on campus. Anyone interested in learning and playing is welcome.

How to find us

We currently meet on Mondays at 5pm on the atrium bridge (staff and pg coffee area) on the first floor in the Alan Turing building, located on Upper Brook Street (number 46 on the campus map). As you come in the building, go through the door immediately to your right, and then right again up the stairs. On the first floor, walk along the atrium to the other end of the building and you should find us there.

If you want to play, just turn up. You can also join directly using this form. For questions, don't hesitate to contact us, at go_soc hotmail.com (insert missing @)

N.B. The building doors are locked at around 5.30 pm. If you want to turn up later than that, please get in touch and we'll sort something out.
