Your Students’ Union represents the interests of all students at the University of Manchester - your views, opinions, ideas and experiences are important to us.
The Union is independent from the University and all University of Manchester students are automatically members.
We make sure that students lead the work of the Union in the following ways:
Bright IdeasWe ask our students to tell us about any ideas or suggestions that they have to make things better for Manchester students. All our students can then show support for these ideas online or in the Union and decide which ideas might shape the future work of the Union. Share your bright Ideas with us here
The six bright ideas chosen by students are discussed at an open meeting where all students can have their say on how those ideas should or shouldn't move forward and become a reality!
Following a chance to discuss the six chosen bright ideas all students will have an opportunity to vote online to say whether they think those ideas are bright or not. Whatever the student vote decides becomes a reailty and shapes Students' Union work.
Student OfficersThe Students' Union Executive team are a group of students that are elected by students each year to guide the work of the Union and to ensure that the Union makes bright ideas happen. Half of the executive team are in paid full time sabbatical (taking tine out from or at the end of their studies) positions.
The Executive team also attend all levels of University Committees and represent the voice and interests of the whole Student population in University decisions and discussions.
The Executive Officer and Union Council elections are in March each year. Any University of Manchester student can stand for a majority of elected positions. There are Elections in October for nine students to represent us at the NUS National Conference 2012 in Sheffield and also for some unfilled Union Council positions.
