What are the options 'Re-open Nominations' and 'Abstain' about?

If you don't want any candidate to be elected, you can vote to Re-open Nominations. This option is treated as though it were a candidate and if it is 'elected' then nominations will re-open.

If you do not wish to vote in a certain election, check the box labelled 'abstain'.

Can you tell me more about Single Transferable Vote (STV)?

The Single Transferable Vote used in these elections allows you to vote for individual candidates in order of preference. You have one vote and use it by entering '1' against your first preference candidate, '2' against your second preference candidate, '3' against your third preference candidate and so on.

A later preference cannot count against an earlier preference. You can express as many or as few preferences as you wish.

When used for contests where there are several posts to elect it achieves proportional representation. When used for contests to fill a single office it ensures that candidates are not elected on a minority of the vote (known as the Alternative Vote in these circumstances).

Can I see the candidates' manifestos whilst I vote?

Yes, there will be a link to each candidate's manifesto on the online ballot. The manifestos will be in pdf format.
